How do the Harvest Cooperative Companies work? Harvest obtains or purchases through donations, and grants, required land and materials to establish a Harvest Cooperative Company and then provides opportunity for ownership. A head of the family is employed by Harvest during the first three years, receives a decent wage, and works to establish the new entity. During this period, sweat equity is applied to purchasing shares in the Harvest Cooperative at the end of the third year. No interest, no-profit loans are extended to the employee for stock purchase at that time.
