Harvest Landscape Company

Introduction

The Harvest Landscape Company will become a separate for-profit entity following 2 to 3 years of operating as a service of Harvest for Humanity, Inc. The operation will employee an experienced adult to manage the program while under the "wing" of Harvest for Humanity. This program will include educational classes and technical training in landscape administration and maintenance. Employees will become proficient in:

  • Administration and management of a landscaping company
  • Planting of trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and grass
  • Feeding, fertilizing, and irrigation
  • Pruning and mulching
  • Lawn mowing and finishing
  • Lawn equipment maintenance

The Jubilation (homeownership) Community Association will be the first customer. The landscaping operation will be responsible for landscape maintenance of the 40-acre Jubilation site in Immokalee consisting of single and multi-family homes, a community activity center, and a nature preserve. Employees will be encouraged to take leadership roles in the new operation. Opportunities will be provided for small group management and supervision, customer interaction, labor scheduling, and materials ordering.

Harvest for Humanity will establish partners (educational institutions and private landscaping firms) to provide education and technical training. Initially, Harvest will employee the management supervisor and part-time employees. After gaining the necessary experience and training, Harvest for Humanity will then sell the landscaping operation using a no-interest, no-profit loan to those employees that exemplify the entrepreneurial talents necessary to sustain it as a successful business.
